Sarah Newton

Pluralistic Counsellor

Welcome. I’m Sarah Newton, a qualified pluralistic counsellor and hypnotherapist based in Woodley. I provide a calm, compassionate, and non-judgmental space for adults and young people to explore the challenges life throws their way.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, navigating bereavement, coping with low self-esteem and confidence, living with the emotional impact of chronic illness, or struggling with relationship issues, I’m here to support you.

I work closely with clients experiencing anxiety as a central focus of my practice, helping you understand what is driving your anxiety, reduce overwhelm, and build practical coping strategies so you can feel more grounded, in control, and able to manage day-to-day life with greater ease.

I also support people through grief and loss, offering a steady and compassionate space to process bereavement and adjust to life after loss in your own time and way. Alongside this, I have particular experience supporting clients living with chronic and long-term health conditions, including Parkinson’s and cancer, helping you navigate not only the physical realities of illness but also the emotional impact, uncertainty, and identity shifts that can come with it.

My approach is rooted in the belief that there is no one-size-fits-all therapy. I work collaboratively with you, tailoring each session to your individual needs, goals, and personality, using a range of therapeutic approaches. This means we focus on what actually helps you, rather than following a fixed method.

With a background in education, hospice work supporting people with cancer and their families, and voluntary work with children and families affected by crime and abuse, I bring warmth, empathy, and real-world experience to my practice. I have extensive experience supporting clients through anxiety, grief, chronic illness, and major life transitions, always offering a grounded and supportive space to talk, reflect, and move forward.

I also offer hypnotherapy where appropriate, helping clients access deeper levels of relaxation, reduce inner conflict, and support positive emotional change.

Sessions are available in person at the Cherry Tree Therapy Centre in Henley-on-Thames or online if preferred. Evening and weekend appointments are available to fit around your schedule.

I offer focused therapeutic support for adults and young people navigating emotional, physical, and life challenges.

My main areas of work include:

  • Anxiety support – helping you reduce overwhelm, understand triggers, and build practical coping strategies so you can feel more grounded and in control
  • Bereavement and grief counselling – offering a supportive space to process loss, adjust to change, and move through grief at your own pace
  • Chronic illness and long-term health conditions – including support for conditions such as Parkinson’s and cancer, helping you manage the emotional impact of diagnosis, uncertainty, and ongoing health changes
  • Low self-esteem and confidence
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Depression
  • Family challenges
  • Life transitions and emotional overwhelm

I work collaboratively and in a tailored way, using a pluralistic approach that draws on different therapeutic methods based on your needs. This allows us to focus on what actually helps you, so you can find clarity, stability, and emotional relief in a way that feels right for you.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy can be a gentle but powerful way to support emotional change and inner calm. I offer focused hypnotherapy sessions to support you with:

  • Anxiety and stress management
  • Low self-esteem
  • Public speaking and performance nerves
  • Relaxation and emotional regulation
  • Emotional well-being alongside chronic illness and health-related stress

These sessions help you access a deeply relaxed state, reduce internal tension, and support positive shifts in thoughts, feelings, and behaviour.
